GOA..fishing the fish

Today , thats 14 th may at 9.00 pm we will start our journey for Goa.
let me jump directly on the topic..
what to eat ? and where to eat?

My friend suggested me visit Cafe Bhonsle
Near Cine National, Panaji (227696). atleast once for breakfast .
Joint is not very popular but its famous for sweet dissh called ban and also regular maharashtrian breakfast misal pav.
George Restaurant is convenient; if a really spicy chorizo-style sausage appeals to you, order the Goan sausage.
For more atmosphere, make a reservation a
t Luiz D'Souza's Hospedaria Venite (31st January Rd., Fontainhas; tel. 0832/242-5537), a tiny upstairs restaurant in a 200-year-old building where you can sit on the balcony and order wonderful Goan specialties (or try the delicious shrimp salsa and stuffed crab).
Close by, in a narrow alley, is another popular and consequently slightly cramped
restaurant, Viva Panjim (Hs No.178, Rua 31 de Janeiro; tel. 0832/242-2405), which has a decent menu at dirt-cheap prices. But if you're looking for a mix of Portuguese and Goan cuisine done to perfection,
make a beeline for the small and cozy Horseshoe (Rua de Ourem; tel. 0832/243-1788). The menu is extensive and striking for its complete lack of vegetarian options.

Maka Goeya boray lakta

Xitt Codi in konkani is a staple diet for many Goans..i.e fish curry and rice.

Coconut milk, rice and paste are main ingredients of Goan delicacies.

as in north wheat is staple food,  mustard oil is cooking medium, in central /deccan region peanut oil is the medium of cookng . In Goa coconut oil is used and use of Kokum is another distinct feature.

let me start with very spicy yummy portugese -goan dish.

Prawn Balchão is another Goan favourite. Brought to Goa by the Portuguese, Balchão originated in Macao, where it is called Balichao. Balchao is a method of cooking either fish or prawns in a dark red and tangy sauce. Balchao is almost like pickling and can be made days in advance without reheating. The traditional Balchao uses a paste made from dried shrimp known as 'galmbo' in Konkani spices and feni(see below. This paste is added to fresh prawns, onion, spices and oil to prepare a prawn balchao. Balchao is often bottled and eaten as an accompaniment in meals. But many people leave out the dried shrimp paste as this lends a fairly strong fishy flavour to the dish.

Maka Goeya boray lakta

Before we find out what to eat & where to eat...

let us know brief history about Gomantak (Goa as found in vedas).

Numerous kings and empires, from the Mauryas to the Satvahanas, Kshatrapus Bhojas Chalukyas of Badami Rashtrakutas Dutch, English, French and Portuguese have fought for its possession and founded their empires here. Its recorded history goes back to the ancient times when it was part of the Mauryan Empire and called by several names such as Gopakapattana, Gomant, Gowapur and Gomanchala. Goa was a colony of the Portuguese till in 1961 Indians forced Portugal out of their tiny stronghold.

Goa became India's maritime power under the rule of the Kadambas who ruled from 1008 AD to 1300 AD. The Muslims first took Goa in 1312, but were defeated by a Vijayanagara king Harihara I, in 1370, who used Goa's port to establish trade relations with Arabia. Then was established the Bahamani Dynasty around 1440 who founded Old Goa and assumed control of this strategic port. The Muslims returned with the conquest of Goa by Yusuf Adil Shah of Bijapur and Muslim pilgrims from all over India embarked from here on their journey to Mecca.

In short it was ruled by Buddhist,Hindu, Muslim and Christian empires.

and hence Goan cuisine is a blend of different influences the Goans had to endure during the centuries.

social activist actor

Sandesh Gaundalkar, my colleague who did story board for the movie GAO TASA CHANGLA, it was the last movie of Nilu bhau. He was fortunate to work him. That time I told him ,when ever he visit Nilu bhau at Pune even I want to join to meet this great personality. But this didn’t happen . and now he is no more!

Everybody knows how great actor he was ,but I did not knew he was great human who was socially committed. Nilu phule was social activist throughout his life.he had social understanding, Actor with heart of activist when he acted he had complete understanding both sides of fence, negative as well as positive roles. He had committed 2 days of every month to work with Andhshraddha Nirmulan Samiti.

According to theatre critic Shanta Gokhale, Phule always wanted to be known for his work on stage. Phule began his theatrical career with loknatya, a Maharashtrian folk performance form. At the same time, Gokhale recalled, he was an avid observer of plays performed at Dadar's famous Chhabildas school, the crucible of experimental Marathi drama by the group Rangayan, that later became Awishkar. One of his most outstanding performances was as the eponymous hero of Vijay Tendulkar's controversial drama Sakharam Binder that was first staged in 1972.

Accustomed to the burlesque of folk drama, Phule had to work on playing the violent, misogynist in a naturalistic manner. Theatre director Vijaya Mehta said, "Only he could have carried it on his shoulders. In somebody else's hand it would have (simply) been a shocking play.''

It helped that Phule looked the part. With his drooping eyes and heavy mouth, Phule was every bit the arch villain. "A huge advantage was his physiognomy,'' Gokhale said. "His face speaks because of the way it is. He didn't really need to do anything except control his voice. Even in (Sakharam Binder's) most violent speeches.''

His best can be seen in the movies SAMNA, SINHASAN, PINJRA, JAIT RE JAIT, SHAPIT. Phule received the prestigious Sangeet Natak Academi award from the president in 1991. The Maharashtra government had also felicitated him with the best actor award on three occasions. Phule received the Natya Darpan award for his role in the famous play Sooryasta (Sun Set). The Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Natya Parishad felicitated Phule with the Jayantrao Tilak Lifet

Nilu phule got best actor award for Jabbar Patel directed movie SINHASAN at Berlin film festival.

Phule's persona became such a badge that people were often surprised that he wasn't a curmudgeon in real life. Film critic Dilip Thakur said that the negative roles took a toll on his social life. "He even told me that he was not welcome to social gathering and that at one marriage function, he was not served food.''

"He was totally (different from) his image in private life,'' said Rohini Hattangady, who acted with him in Saaransh (1984) and toured Maharashtra raising funds for poor rural folk with him. "He was a very nice

Amol Palekar, actor
It is our ingratitude that we couldn’t realise the potential of an actor like Nilu Phule. In 1970s, when loud acting defined Marathi theatre, Nilu Phule’s controlled acting brought about a welcome change. For young actors, his performances in Sakharam Binder and Katha Aklechya Kandyachi were like lessons in acting. Interestingly, he never came into the spotlight despite deserving it. He used to take cognisance of new experiments in Marathi theatre. He helped downtrodden people wholeheartedly. I think he was a greater human being than an actor.

Dr Shriram Lagoo, actor
If someone has to complie a list of world-class actors, Nilu Phule’s name will definitely feature in it. He had firm opinions about politics too, which was rare to see in an actor. It was, however, unfortunate that he got stereotypical roles in Marathi movies. But it was a drawback of the films, not his. He, however, used to perform his best in all the roles he essayed. I remember that the role of Sakharam had first come to me. I liked the script but I refused the role, as it did not suit me. I suggested Nilu’s name to producer Kamlakar Sarang. Nilubahu agreed to do the role and the rest, as they say, is history.

Jabbar Patel, director
As an actor, Nilu Phule was great in understanding the nuances of a character. His role in Saamna was a good example of that. He was a great social commentator and had a grasp of political developments in the last five decades. It is rare to find actors with such sensibilities. With the death of Nilu Phule, an era has come to an end.

Double standards of Saffron brigade

If hindu kills innocent people he is nationalist and muslim kills he his terrorist.

this is the bottom line which is i have understood aftermath of Pakistani attack on mumbai.

three ATS officers killed are now become heroes for these saffron people , whom they have branded anti- hindu anti-national

The BJP was particularly upset at the way his investigation exposed a network of “Hindu terrorism.”
Before that, the bombings were quickly blamed on Islamic extremist groups.
Karkare was upset during the last days of his life because of these allegations. Today, he is a hero in the eyes of the very same people who questioned his integrity and allegiance to India.
The BJP Chief Minister for Gujarat province, Narendra Modi, announced Rs. 1 crore (C$250,000) as a posthumous reward to Karkare. The policeman’s widow, however, refused to accept the money.
The way Karkare was treated by the BJP reflects its hypocrisy and bias. The party is comfortable linking Islam with terrorism falls to a double standard when someone exposes extremism within the Hindu ranks.

No less a leader than the BJP's Prime Ministerial candidate, L K Advani, had demanded a change in the ATS team and a judicial inquiry into the torture allegations made by Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur, a key suspect in the Malegaon case.

The Shiv Sena too had come out in support of the suspects and on Wednesday had threatened in its mouthpiece Saamna that it would publish the names of some ATS officers and shame them as it said they had tortured the Malegaon suspects.
